DAY 3: 「トヨタ産業技術記念館」探訪 「栄生」と書いて、「さこう」と読む。名鉄で名古屋から一駅のこの街にある「トヨタ産業技術記念館」を訪れた。豊田佐吉が自動織機を発明して以来、研究、改良、開発が続けられ、やがて自動車産業へと発展した日本を代表する企業トヨタ。名古屋に来たからには見学するに如かずと開館と同時に飛び込んで、午前中いっぱい館内で過ごした。中国からの団体旅行客が詰めかけ、車椅子の見学者も多く、朝から賑わっていた。以前から（すでに歴史的タームになり、英語にもなっている）KAIZENに興味があったので、特設コーナーでじっくり拝見。 車の運転とは縁のなかった私ではあるけれど、自動織機がどのように日本の近代化、工業化に関わったのか知る機会になった。先人たちの意慾と情熱、そして科学技術に関する飽くなき創意工夫が今日まで受け継がれていることに驚嘆した。

DAY 3: A visit to Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology Sakou is next to Nagoya by Meitetsu Railway Line. On the third day we visited Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. Since Toyoda Sakichi invented automatic looms at the beginning of 20th century, he continued research, improvement, and development, he founded the base of TOYOTA, the worldly famous automobile company. Now that we were in Nagoya, the place where Sakichi started his research and business, I believed it worthwhile to learn about TOYOTA. We jumped in the museum as soon as the door was open and spent the whole morning there. There were a great number of Chinese tourists and I saw visitors on their wheel chairs as well. As I was curious about "KAIZEN", a historical term now, I was happy to see a relevant exhibition of the idea. Although I was not able to drive a car, I was glad to get a chance to learn how Sakichi's automatic looms contributed to modernization and industrialization in Japan.
