DAY 1 名古屋城、名古屋市内散策

家族の勤務地が名古屋に変わり、どんなところか訪問してみることにした。これまで一度も訪れる機会がなかったため、通り一遍の知識しかなく（いやそれも怪しい）、あらためて地図や旅行ガイドなど抱えて二泊三日の旅に出た。東京から新幹線で約1時間40分。名古屋の駅前には人が溢れスタイリッシュなビルが立ち並ぶ。どこも同じような都会の顔か、と一瞬思ったけれど、いざ歩き始めるとやはり別の文化圏に来たことを実感した。城、公園、区画整理の行き届いた通り、街路樹、店舗、そして食べ物、外から恐る恐るアプローチしただけでも独特な味わいがある。そんな短い時間で何が分かると言われようと、百聞は一見に如かず。目についたものを撮影した記録を残しておこう。

DAY 1 A visit to Nagoya Castle and exploring the city

One of our family members was assigned to Nagoya recently so that we decided to go and see what the place was like. As I had not had a chance to visit Nagoya, my knowledge (if I had any) was quite limited on the city. I collected guide books and maps to prepare for my short trip for three days. It took us only an hour and 40 minutes to Nagoya from Tokyo by a bullet train. The front of Nagoya Station, full of people and stylish buildings, seemed not different from Tokyo. However, once I began walking, I gradually started to feel I was in a different cultural space. The Castle, parks, well divided streets, roadside trees, shops, and food; they inspired me differently. Seeing is believing. I took photos for investigation and memory. Let me show you the photos.

DAY 3: 「トヨタ産業技術記念館」探訪

名古屋に到着。待ち合わせ場所はやはり、名鉄百貨店前の「ナナちゃん人形」。

Arriving at Nagoya Station, Nana-chann is a good place to meet people. (It stands in front of Meitetsu Department Store.)

市内散策、最初の目的地は名古屋城。おぉ、これか！燦然と輝く金の鯱。

The first destination was Nagoya Casle. Yes, the orcs on the rooftop of the castle were glittering gold.

城の敷地は広大で、天守閣にたどり着くまでの道が長い。/ The estate of the castle is so huge that we need to walk a while to the foot of the tower.

城の全容を視界に入れる場所には多くの観光客が。残念ながら逆光だった。/ It was rather difficult to find a place to have the whole view of the castle tower. Unfortunately it was backlit.

標識に曰く「二の丸御殿北御庭の北端の石垣の上に東西に長く伸びた練塀の遺構である。この練塀は「南蛮たたき」で固められた非常に堅固
なものであり、円形の鉄砲狭間が見られる。（以下省略）」 / This sturdy wall was constructed using the European plaster method, topped with tiles, and had many round gumports.

天主台の石垣は「丈夫で外側にそり出す扇勾配という技法を用い、築城の名手加藤清正がわずか3ヶ月で作り上げられたと言われている。」* / The stone wall under the castle tower is considered to use an architectural
method called "Ogi (a folding fan) inclination" and was built by Katou Kiyomasa, an eminent military commander and master of castle building, in 3 monthes.
